Philippe Coutinho has revealed why he would not opt to leave Liverpool for a move to Barcelona, Real Madrid or Bayern Munich.

The Brazilian playmaker is routinely linked with Europe’s biggest clubs despite having signed a new long-term deal at Anfield in January.

And he has insisted that he plans on making a name for himself at Liverpool, and not becoming “just another player” at one of the continent’s juggernauts.

“I have a long contract with Liverpool,” Coutinho told ESPN Brasil – via the Independent. “Speculations are for journalists only.

“Stay here and they will end up building a statue in your honour. Go somewhere else, to Barcelona, to Bayern Munich, to Real Madrid, and you will be just another player. Here you can be something more.”

Coutinho’s recent contract extension is set to keep him at the club until 2022, and the 24-year-old appears to have no immediate intention of an exit.

He scored a career 13 best goals in the Premier League this season, helping his side finish in the top four and reach the Champions League.

In January, manager Jurgen Klopp categorically dismissed any chance of selling Coutinho.

“We never had any ideas or plans or any talks about him leaving,” he said – via the Mirror. “He is our player – there are no other ideas, nothing has changed.”
