Atletico Madrid would give 'determined' response to Real Madrid on Theo Hernandez

Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo says he would give Real Madrid an "energetic and determined" reply if they enquire about paying the €24 million release clause to sign Theo Hernandez this summer.
Theo, 19, has impressed on loan at Alaves this season, with Madrid among a host of teams including Barcelona, Manchester City and Manchester United who have been linked with a move for the France youth international.
Earlier this week, Marca claimed that Madrid planned to pay the left-back's €24 million release clause this summer, breaking an unwritten gentleman's agreement which prevents such transfers between the neighbouring clubs taking place. Liverpool have also reportedly joined the chase, and could potentially quintuple his current wages to €5m-a-year, according to El Larguero.
Cerezo spoke about the situation on El Transistor -- the same radio show which earlier this week claimed Atletico were so angry with Madrid for approaching Theo's representatives without permission that they would be boycotting the prematch meal before Saturday's La Liga derbi at the Santiago Bernabeu.

"Whenever we are going to play a derbi, something similar happens," Cerezo said. "People should be more serious. We do not lose time with such stuff. Nobody has asked us about Theo, about clauses, nothing at all. We do not know anything about this. If Madrid ask us about Theo the answer would be energetic and determined. Theo is our player, on loan at Alaves, but our player."
Asked if a "non-aggression pact" with Madrid existed, which the European champions would break if they did try and tempt Theo across the Spanish capital, Cerezo said there were established ways in which business was conducted between friendly clubs.
"Players play where they want to play," he said. "For the friendship there is, if tomorrow we wanted one of their players, we would go and talk to this club to see if there is agreement or not. If we want a player from any team, we go to talk to this team."

Meanwhile, fellow left-back Filipe Luis has told AS that he hoped Theo would return from Alaves to Atletico for the 2017-18 campaign to compete for a starting spot, with the 31-year-old also joking that he saw himself playing for another decade.
"I am delighted for him to return with us," Filipe Luis said. "We would have healthy competition, and can improve together. He is a great player, he has shown that already, and I want him to come back and be with us, so we can keep improving. When I retire in 10 years the left-back spot will be in good hands."
